b4 Architects operates in an open plan office environment which encourages interaction and participation by all staff in the creative process of deriving a solution for our clients and which strives to provide an informative experience for our visiting clients.
Our design philosophy is to spend time understanding our clients objectives and needs on a project and to encourage staff participation so that the project team is intimately focused on achieving the best design solution for the client to suit his budget and time frames.
We are embracing the rapid advancement in Building Information Modelling (BIM) systems and have the latest generation software and equipment to enable us to provide an innovative BIM solution to our clients needs. We utilize Revit 2013 for modelling in conjunction with Lumion 3.0 as a visualization tool which enables us to understand early in the design process how the building will work so that we can adapt the design and affect the outcome early in the design phase.

Background

• b4 Architects was founded by Bryan & Bruce Brinkman on 01 November 2011 after they left Brinkman Ndayi McAll Architects at the end of October 2011.
• Bruce Brinkman has 42 years of experience in the Architectural field in the Cape having joined Brinkman Van Rooyen & Browne Architects in January 1970.
• Bryan Brinkman has 14 years of experience in the Architectural field and joined Brinkman Van Rooyen Browne & Sutton Architects as a student in 1996 and commenced post graduate work in 1999.
• The Brinkman family can trace their involvement in private practice in the architectural and the built environment fields in South Africa back to 1925 when Bruce Brinkman's grandfather, Hendrik Siemerink, retired from the Department of Public Works and commenced private practice in Port Elizabeth.
• Hendrik Siemerink's daughter Gertruida (the first woman to qualify as an Architect in South Africa) joined the practice in 1932.
• Gertruida Siemerink married JF (Jack) Brinkman in 1935 who also joined the practice.
• Jack Brinkman died in January 1970. 
• Bruce Brinkman became a partner in Brinkman Van Rooyen & Browne Architects in 1972.
• Gertruida Brinkman retired in 1975. 
• Bruce Brinkman became the CEO of Brinkman Van Rooyen Browne & Sutton Architects in 1995.
• In 2001 Bruce Brinkman became CEO of the multi-disciplinary practice, Brinkman Ndayi McAll cc.
• Bruce Brinkman retired from Brinkman Ndayi McAll at the end of October 2011 and together with Bryan Brinkman, who also left BNM at the same time, formed a new practice, b4 Architects.
