Knysna, Western Cape
Characterised by a very restrictive site, the first phase of the expansion of the Knysna Private Hospital comprises the construction of a new two-storey building with a 12 bed ward at the lower level and three doctors consulting suites at the upper level. Internally extensive use of glazing permits natural seeks to break the traditional hospital feel and provide a new level of comfort and environment to prospective patients. The existing parking area is being excavated and a new parking deck being constructed to increase the currently limited parking available on site. Due to site constraints the bulk oxygen tank is positioned at the front of the site and has been shielded with a vertical timber screen, which complements the architectural detailing used in the handrails and other screening elements. A new swept steel canopy will complete the overhaul of the hospital’s image.
